First Impressions:
the importance of choosing the exterior
color of your home

Everyone knows one of  my favorite subjects is PAINT COLORS. We talk about choosing colors for walls and cabinets and trim inside the home but remember, the very first impression anyone will have of your home is its exterior. So, here are some of our Hammertown Design Team’s favorite examples of how transformational changing the exterior color of your home can be.

The blue with white trim exterior on this home looked fine but the owners thought it was time for a change and a little updating. The answer was a beautiful Edgecomb Gray (from Benjamin Moore) with all trim painted the same color as body of house. It provides a soft and sophisticated background that beautiful sets off the stone walls and roof tiles.

Some of you might remember this transformation of Hammertown Design consultant, Drew Evan’s, 19th century home (originally a schoolhouse). “Color-wise, ” Drew says, “I wanted to go with something modern and dramatic to counter how old the house is and so I had always planned to do some version of charcoal and orange.” His color pick: Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron. This was a bold change but it really works in accomplishing what Drew was aiming for. (click here to read our original 2017 blog on Drew’s house)
